I love the unique perspective in this quote. I feel like this sometimes too. Maybe we all need a trip to the moon.

"One of the most loving things you can do for another person is let them make their own mistakes, learn their own lessons and endure in the contrast of a life they don’t really want. People only really change when they’ve hit rock bottom - sometimes the most loving thing you can do for a person is to let them and be there to help pick up the pieces. Permanent change comes from within, no one can give it to you."

I need to remind myself of this more and stop trying to fix other people. My favorite part of the quote is “permanent change comes from within”. You can only be there for them during rough times but you cannot make life decisions for them.

"You can forgive someone almost anything. But you cannot tolerate everything…We don’t have to tolerate what people do just because we forgive them for doing it. Forgiving heals us personally. To tolerate everything only hurts us all in the long run."

Why Do Some People Have Dark Skin While Others Have Light Skin?

I was recently reading an article from Parent Magazine and reminded of how easier life would be if we thought as children. This article addresses questions kids have about their bodies and provides kid-friendly answers from doctors and specialists. When is came to the question of why some people have light skin and some people have dark skin, I was blown away by how simple the answer is. I then became equally blown away when I think of how complicated adults make differences in skin color.

Here is the question: Why do some people have dark skin while others have light skin?

What to tell your kid: A person’s skin color is determined by the amount and type of pigment (called melanin) in the skin, says Dr. Eichenfield. Darker skin, which contains more melanin, helps in sunny places because it’s less likely to burn and become cancerous — so people whose ancestors come from warmer regions, like Africa or Southeast Asia, tend to have darker coloring.

    It’s that simple.

I need to keep this list with me next time I have a conversation with someone opposed to same-sex marriage.

This is definitely a useful rape analogy. I personally know women that have went through similar interrogations.

"Let today be a day where you take nothing for granted. For life is fleeting, fragile and precious and can change on a whim. Say all the things you really want to say to your loved ones today, say the things you would regret should they pass on and your words remain unspoken. Rejoice, for you and they are alive today - and should you or them pass on to unknown shores, rejoice even more for you have a wonderful love story to tell."

I love to watch stories of human struggle that have happy endings!

“According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, human trafficking is now the fastest-growing criminal industry in the world. As many as 800,000 people are trafficked across international borders annually; the United States is a popular destination, with as many as 17,500 people brought in each year and exploited for sex or labor.”

I am so discouraged and disgusted from reading more and more stories about modern day slavery and exploitation. “The FBI named Atlanta one of the 14 cities with the highest number of child prostitutes.” (Rhonda Cook - AJC)

People, wake up and realize what we are doing to each other! There are already so many scary things in this world without us turning on each other. We need to spread the word that this problem is still going on so people can be on the lookout and most importantly, so we can teach our children that this is wrong.
